In the middle of 2012 I went to ShopKo. I had noticed a lot of ads for the OrGreenic non stick coated cooking pans that apparently wouldn't have the problems of Teflon since they are apparently ceramic based coating. They say Teflon comes off into your food in some cases, and it's not good for you or your health.
So I bought one. It was green! I read the instructions and saw it was similar to cast iron. You have to "season it". So I did that, put the oils on it and heated it up... did all that was instructed. I tried it and it was alright at the beginning. I use Coconut oil when I cook (which is healthier).
There were times when it would be okay but I never really got it to the point where the food would slide off like it was on ice--like the commercials.
Needless to say, I wasn't happy with it. I took it to my fiancee's house and she used it. She was frustrated with it and it would stick bad. Sometimes I wouldn't use oil but I usually did and when I did, if the oil wasn't all over the pan, I would loose a ton of food on the surface.
I came home one day and noticed my pan was in the trash. My girl had become so frustrated that she threw it in the garbage. I asked "What's wrong with the pan and why did you throw it away?" and she said "it doesn't work and I'm loosing half my egg on the pan!". She was on her bridal dress diet...hum...
She picked up a cheapy-cheapy at Wal-mart for $5. Of course it's teflon, so we have to be careful with it but it worked 20 times better than the other one did. With wedding plans on the way, we don't have the funds to buy the really great teflon cookware yet.
I had to bury the green pan--No ten gun salute for the OrGreenic folks. I don't know what you guys are using on the commercials, silicon eggs? You can't eat silicon folks. It just doesn't work and my Wal Mart Mainstays 9.5 Inch non stick sauté pan will be the pan of choice until there is more money (send money for our wedding) please.
It's not easy being green...when the pan has the blues that bad.
signing off....
